Sephora's 2014 Birthday Gift!

Because my Birthday is so early in the year, last year I received the 2012 Birthday gift from Sephora: The Sugar Duo, instead of the 2013 Benefit duo that they had. I'd never heard of Sugar at the time as I was a brand new shopper at Sephora, so I was really looking forward to trying it and was pleasantly surprised!
So, the day before my birthday this year I stopped in to see what 2014's surprise Birthday gift was going to be.

2014 "Make Up For Ever" Gift Includes:

Mini Smoky Extravagant Mascara
Mini Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N9 Copper Pink

* Note: Looking at the picture above, you might think it's been darkened to be an untrue colour but I've made sure that the colour of the lipstick matches in person :)

Smoky Extravagant Mascara

I really like the tapered brush on this one - I didn't have one before I'd received this, but I'm definitely a fan! It's very easy to grab the inner lashes as well as the bottom ones. The brush is indeed a brush material and not a plastic one, and therefore isn't as stiff. I would describe it as not necessarily grabbing onto the lashes and pulling through, but rather, brushing over them if that makes sense...! But the method still works great! It's an extremely light-weight formula and doesn't weigh down the lashes one bit. It's also a great separator but doesn't leave you with spider-lashes, and makes a great everyday mascara!

Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N9 Copper Pink

First off, I'd just like to say how cute and small this little lipstick is haha it won't last long, but long enough to get the gist, and make a decision about it either way. As I mentioned above, I adjusted the colour of my picture to resemble the true colour of the lipstick, which, if I had to describe in two words, would be: sheer brown. Yes, it is a copper-y tone like the name implies, and it does lean more towards pink than blue, but it's definitely a sheer brown when I apply it :) One thing about lipsticks of course to keep in mind is how much they really do vary depending on the natural colour of your lips, especially when they're sheer like this one. For instance, my lips are a slightly darker colour considering my skin colour is darker (similar to this picture), so the shade of this Make Up Forever lipstick will vary for everyone. The formula is creamy and applies smoothly, and the colour makes it a great natural-looking fall/winter shade!

Overall, I'm a fan of both!

If I were forced to pick one over the other, for arguments sake, I'd say the mascara because of a). how well it separates your lashes, and b). the fact that I don't usually wear lipstick (mainly lip balms) so I could maybe justify the cost of a macara a bit more haha but both products are worth a try.

Another great pick for Sephora's Birthday Gift that I'm sure you all will be quite happy with, but really, let's be honest, I'm still surprised that we even get anything from them for our birthday...!!
Thanks Sephora & Make Up Forever! :)
