Over the past 2 months, I've found a ton of new blogs
but lately, I've really been trying to branch out in terms of the different types of blogs I search for and read.
Since doing so, I've started to notice just how many different types of blogs AND BLOG WRITERS there are out there!
...Beauty-lovers, fashion-admirers, trend-setters, anecdote-sharers, kitchen-creators, world-travellers, adventure-seekers, daily-recorders, advice-givers, story-tellers...
People are motivated to write & share posts by lots of different things - it might depend on the content they publish or even just what they hope to achieve from blogging down the road.
All you bloggers out there have found a REASON to blog!
Something that made you start, and something that makes you keep going.
"It's...
Cathartic
An escape
Like a diary
A free hobby
Something I can take with me anywhere
A little space of the internet all to myself
Convenient seeing as I'm on the internet a lot anyways...!"
"It helps me...
improve my writing
improve my photography skills
track my progress - goals, cooking, fitness, school, whatever I want!"
"It's somewhere I can...
give advice
make people laugh
make people think
share my experiences
share what I'm passionate about
find people with similar interests!"
Perhaps it's just somewhere you can write what you want, when you want.
Maybe it's somewhere you can truly express yourself how you'd really like to.
For everyone, I think it's a little different, but it's interesting to find out WHY your favourite bloggers really do blog, and what makes them post what they do.
From an "outsider's" perspective, I can see why it would be interesting to know why so many people do blog.
And from an "insider's" perspective, I can acknowledge each individual person's reason(s) for blogging, and can even understand why some bloggers choose to keep their blogs anonymous. (*high five!*)
Yes, potential readers might care how often you post, and your views might be higher if you post about certain topics, but, I think my point of this entire post is just
to blog if YOU want to blog, and blog about what YOU want to blog about.
If you want to blog, go for it! When that spark's gone though, that's okay too.
Whatever motivates you, keep that in mind.
:)

I blog because it's my form of escape to my somewhat boring life. Xx
ReplyDeleteAww blog's are great for escaping those everyday going-ons hey? Get to meet lots of other bloggers and find tons of blogs to read through too! :)
DeleteVery thought-provoking! Love your views on this, and how it did make me stop and think about the reasons I started blogging and continue blogging in the first place.
ReplyDeleteIt's been quite interesting to think about hey! And for me it's been SUPER interesting hearing everyone else's reasons too in all of the comments here!!! :)
DeleteI blog because i'm having to much ideas and thoughts inside my head. It has to go somewhere, Blogging helped me to find people who are the same as me :) :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great being able to find people with similar interests and hobbies, and who enjoy blogging about them too hey! :) It'll also be cool to look back at past posts to see those kind of ideas & thoughts as well I think!
DeleteThis is such a great post! I started blogging because of all the traveling I was doing and thought it would be fun to have a place to document it . Then started posting anything I wanted!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Gina! Travel blogs are so interesting!! Awesome reads (& pictures)! That's one of the really nice things about blogs hey, you can change the content and theme to whatever you want, whenever you want! It's great :)
DeleteI blog because I am passionate about my subject matter - lingerie and I want to share my ideas and knowledge of the industry, brands and fit to my readers. If I could help just one person find a bra they adore, discover a new brand, understand how a bra should fit I am happy! :) My blog gives me a space for my thoughts x
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you've found what you're passionate about writing! It's a great feeling knowing that you've helped someone out by just writing a post!! :)
DeleteLove this post - I started blogging as a distraction from doing my Masters degree dissertation, than it started about topics I was studying, through in life in a long distance relationship and then moving countries. It see continues to grow and change, in fact i'm on the edge of starting a new series about how to go around buying a house. I blog because it reflects my life and it's somewhere to write all the happenings down, and if it helps someone else along the way that might be going through the same thing, even better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachael! Your blog really is a great example of a lifestyle blog - such a wide variety of topics that relate to your life, it makes for really honest and interesting posts to read! It's cool reading comments back on posts where people can relate to what you've written :) - For posts like this one, it's been great hearing what other people have to say!!
Deletelovely post! I first started blogging to try and improve my writing. Over the years, it's become something of an online diary and I've loved becomming part of the blogging community! Thanks for sending over your link tonight :)
ReplyDeleteHannah xx
Thanks Hannah! Wow our initial reasons were actually really similar haha I had just graduated and wanted somewhere to continue writing and to have a place to put thoughts and ideas down :) It's been great!!
DeleteThat is such a good question. Why DO I blog? I think for me, blogging is a creative outlet with a medium I soooo love. Clothes, shoes, and accessories! I also love being inspired by other bloggers style, it gets me excited to try different looks.
ReplyDeleteMegan @ sirenjane.blogspot.com
There really are SO many great beauty and fashion blogs out there hey?! Gets you inspired to try new looks for sure! :) (And even get a bunch of different opinions on products and trends before you even try them which is an added bonus too!!)
DeleteGood question! I guess I blog 'cause I wanna share what I love and get to know other people's styles <3
ReplyDeletexx stephalsay.blogspot.com
So many great blogs out there to look through :) So much variety!
DeleteWhat a lovely post! It's great to see what made you start blogging and its a question thats always nice to hear. Sometimes we can get bogged down too easily with having to get posts out and commenting and this and that and it's nice to go back to basics and ask ourselves and each other why we blog.
ReplyDeleteMe personally, I blog to help. I felt I had certain questions about beauty and makeup and even fashion that nobody was answering so I'd often go out and find my own answers. It got to a point where I thought, well If I'm going out getting the answers, Why don't I share them? I love writing and I love photography so It sort of went hand in hand and here we are :D
I'm a confident plus size woman so I'm happy to step out into the limelight and do things and I can only hope to inspire and help others looking for things that I'm posting about :D x

Fantastic post! Wish I could have read this before I even started my blog. I was always so hesitant to start one because I didn't know which "niche" I would fit into. I realize that I blog mostly for myself and if people like it, that makes it even better :)
ReplyDeleteLove the second graphic, funny haha!
Thanks Melissa! There definitely are some blogs out there that are 100% in one particular niche, but I've come to find that mine isn't really haha I like just being able to post whatever's on my mind that I think would be fun to write or for people to read :) It's been nice!
DeleteIt keeps me sane!!
ReplyDeleteHaha it's great to get things out of your head or off your chest so to speak and write out isn't it!

DeleteGreat post I find it so interesting to see the different reason shy people blog. I think I mostly blog to keep a track on thing like clothes I've seen and liked or make up I want. Though lately I've been in 2 minds whether I should carry on blogging. I guess everyone feels like that once in a whole but I love reading other blogs and seeing the variety out there :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lolly! There's great variety out there hey? And so many different kinds of bloggers - in terms of themes and personalities! :) It seems to be pretty common that bloggers sometimes want or need a break from blogging - it's another nice thing about being the sole decision-maker of your own blog for sure :)! DeleteFor me, personally, blogging works as a detox from the everyday hustle and bustle. It helps me to relax and stay calm & focussed. I blog because it helps me to stay strong, gives me that much needed confidence and allows me to take risk & do things that I would have never done before. It makes Life a bit more adventurous.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that I am reading this post because I will be pulsing a post where I talk about doing something outside of my com fort zone and If it wasn't for Blogging, i would have never even attempted to do anything like this before.
