I thought, what better for a new review than my first MAC purchase!
The MAC Lustre Drops in PINK REBEL
* Link for possibly discontinued MAC products at end of post *
When I went into MAC, I was already pretty much sold on the Benefit Watt's Up as a highlighter and had almost justified to myself the $36 price tag that comes along with it, so I wasn't really in the market for a highlight.
However, when I went into MAC (originally looking for a lipstick), the consultant slowly had me try on one thing after another, and ended with these Lustre Drops.
Honestly, I caved because I felt bad that she had spent so much time with me and I didn't want to leave with nothing ... haha!
So, I bought the lustre drops in Pink Rebel, knowing there was another shade - SUN RUSH - but trusted that the lady who helped me would've already thought of which would suit my skin tone best.
When I got home & tried the highlight with my everyday makeup and saw it in the daylight,
the highlight looked really pretty and confirmed the fact that I had made a good decision to buy it!
You can use a brush or your finger to dab a tiny dot right on or above each cheekbone, and blend it out and up towards your temples.
The pigment changes colour slightly in the sun which adds a nice touch to an otherwise natural looking makeup look - and adds a nice dimension to your face in pictures!
Although I can't speak for the Sun Rush colour, for me, Pink Rebel could easily be an everyday highlight that's not too shimmery or gaudy like some others might.
(Just be sure to use a small amount!!)
All in all, I would've definitely consider buying another Lustre Drops - perhaps even the Sun Rush - when my current one ran out (which by the looks of it won't be for quite awhile which is nice!) - EXCEPT that I've heard word that Lustre Drops might have been discontinued as of just this month...?!
If you are looking for a highlight and don't mind spending around $25, pop by your local MAC store and see if they still have one and give it a try! It's too bad if it really is being discontinued, but it makes me glad I picked one up when I did!

Do you have a favourite MAC product?
(Also, if you're from North America HERE is the list of possibly discontinued items - some of which are already gone it seems, like the Lustre Drops!)
Happy Weekend everybody

That is a beautiful highlight! It's too bad it's going to be discontinued... I myself have been wanting to try out Watts Up, as well as the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder. Ah, so many to choose from.

Oooo I haven't heard of the Hourglass line before!! Oh another line to keep an eye out for ;) haha and ya, I'm still thinking of trying ONE of the benefit highlighters some day too :)
DeleteI never knew they were discontinuing the luster drops. That's crazy. Mac has had them for as long as I can remember. Oh well. Onto my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteI know hey?! They're so nice :o ... maybe they'll revamp them or something and come out with a product that's prrrretty close to what Lustre Drops are haha like a sneaky repackaging ;)
Deletethis looks really good!! shame that they are discontinuing :(

Oh really?? Aww, well there's tons of other great ones out there too :D
DeleteAww thanks Zara! :)
ReplyDeleteI just got a sample of Watt's Up and loooove it, but I'm definitely not one to spend full price on something like that, mostly because I'm not that into makeup. This MAC though does look very pretty in your pictures!

Haha with you on the price! If I can find a drugstore version of something, I usually just try that first...! Too new to makeup to spend tons & tons of money on it ;) lol
DeleteI have never tried the drops for blush! such a great idea! looks like a lovely color! i will have to try it out!
ReplyDeletekelseybang.com
It's a really nice colour! And because it changes colour in the light, it makes it dimensional looking too - ya definitely check it out if you can! :)
DeleteI've never tried one of MAC's products. They all seem so wonderful, but I think they are quite pricey (and I'm a bit stingy, haha). The product you bought sounds really great!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!

Haha they definitely are pricey hey?! I kinda caved and then a couple days after I bought it I was debating whether or not to take it back before I opened it haha but I'm glad I kept it! I like the MAC blushes but it'd take some real good convincing (or a gift card! haha) for me to get one any time soon ;)
DeleteThis is actually a pretty awesome first MAC purchase as most people reach for the lipsticks or eyeshadows first. I think maybe the difference in the two shades of the lustre drops is the undertone colour one is more pink and the other more yellow so either may suit depending on the undertones of your skin. Super sad they may be discontinuing it though! I've never heard anything but good reviews from it. Maybe they're saying goodbye to these to introduce new products? Who knows!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a wonderful day :)

Thanks Deb! You too! :)
DeleteYa I'm thinking they might be pulling this one to repackage it and launch something really similar under a *new* name (or hopefully at least!) I'm sure they won't go into the summer season without having a shimmery highlighter in their line :D
Amazing product, love this shade. Fab review doll :) Will be a shame if they discontinue this :)x
